The Board’s Health, Safety and Environment Committee (‘HSE Committee’) has been constituted to develop, implement and oversee a health and safety culture in the Company and to assist the management in its drive towards achieving and maintaining industry-leading performance in these areas.

This is crucial to ensuring a safe working environment on site as well providing assurance to other key stakeholders including customers and suppliers that the Company is committed to sustainability.

Health and safety

At both the Chennai and Gujarat sites, continuous training programmes in safety management are established for both OPG and contracted staff. Targets have been introduced to enable year-on year improvements and these are monitored by the Company’s HSE Committee. To drive its improvement programmes the Company has adopted a Policy of achieving Zero Harm at both sites.

Environment

OPG is committed to achieving continuous improvements in environmental performance and seeks to prevent, mitigate, reduce or offset the environmental impact of its operations. The Group’s strategy here is to ensure compliance with Ministry of Environment and Forest (‘MOEF’) Standards and seek to exceed MOEF standards in practice where possible.

The OPG Chennai site successfully obtained the ISO 14001:2004 certification. This specifies requirements for an environmental management system to enable an organisation to develop and implement best practice policies and objectives with respect to the environment.

Community

OPG is committed to the communities in which it operates and recognises the importance of ongoing engagement.  Concern for the environment and the promotion of a broad sustainability agenda are integral to OPG’s activities and the management of the organisation.
